I've got a bit of a strange issue here.

I'm creating a site, the default font is Arial. I've just shown my client, but her browser is showing a font that is not Arial. Other than Arial, it should just default to sans-serif, but I find it hard to believe that:
- Arial isn't installed on her Windows Vista
- That her default sans-serif font isn't Arial

I've attached a screenshot of her browser if anyone can recognise the font, or if you know why her browser is displaying this font instead of the CSS-defined Arial.

Many thanks in advance,

Darren

Difficult to spot! Has she changed her Display Properties font setting?

Vista should have Arial installed but it may have been uninstalled, or her browser default may have been changed or altered so you'd need to check her settings.

But there agin it just shows that you never know how everyone will see web pages!

Why doesn't the font you've coded as the default in your website (Arial or sans-serif) override her browser settings? It should.

Has she used the accessibility setting, which would override your stylesheet.

I've just spoken to my client, but it hasn't solved this mystery.

She has Arial installed on Vista. Google Results show Arial and 12px as they should, so the font obviously works, it looks like my site is Arial but is in bold, and possibly a 1px larger for some reason. Checked her default font settings and they are fine, the same as mine.

The CSS stylesheet shows font-family:Arial, sans-serif; so no idea why it's being ignored. Tried doing font-weight:normal; on the body tag but no change for her. She tried IE7 and it looked correct, Arial displaying as it should, so it appears to be a Firefox issue.

Any further suggestions? At a bit of a loss here.

Hey Zed, thanks for the reply.

Your link was a great help thanks, it turns out a lot of people have had this issue. I found the solution in one of the threads. Although it doesn't explain the problem, it turns out replacing the Arial font on the affected machine with the Arial font of an unaffected machine sorts the problem. I sent my client my arial.tff to use instead and she says it's fixed the problem.

Thanks for everyone's help.
