I have a Dell inspiron 1545, its a nice bit of kit but seriously struggles under the pressure of running lots of programs at once (Very annoying).

A friend of mine is skint and wants to sell his iMac off it has the following spec:

20Inch screen
Core 2 Duo
2.66Ghz
2GB Ram
320GB HDD
GeForce 9400M/SD
and it has FireWire 800

All this for £400, he bought it for over £1000 a few months ago, it is in perfect working order.

Is this a gd deal??

Also i am making the change from pc - mac are their any annoying problems with this other than the Flash support or has this been sorted now?

Sounds ok...But 2GB is not good...You will need 4GB+.

It's a good deal if it's working 100%, yes. I don't know what you're talking about regarding Flash support. I've been a Mac user for 5+ years and have always had a perfect, up-to-date version of Flash running. If you have software you've paid for, remember you will need to buy it again for Mac. There are a lot of differences, you will soon adapt.

I believe memory management is slightly different on Macs (or *nix systems). You'll find that 2GB will be enough to run a hell of a lot of programs, but it will eventually slow due to the old processor.

You can indeed upgrade memory on Macs.

Everything that works on your PC will work, in a lot of cases better, on a Mac - excluding some fun/useless third party apps of course.

Edit: Having said that, Windows 7 is just as good as OS X in my opinion - if you manage to get yourself a completely clean install of it that is. It's the hardware and bloatware you get from people like HP or Acer which puts me off ever going back to 'PC'.

£400? Your friend could get a lot more for it, so snap up the deal before he realises that.

I happen to have a Late 09 MacBook with 2Gb ram and it can run most of CS5 Masters Collection without slowing down

This particular model's specs are very good and adequate for web graphic designing. And it can support up to 8g of ram. Some PC rams can actually work on a Mac like the Kingston brand since their price is way much cheaper than an Apple branded ram. If you can upgrade the ram to 4g or more would be good.

I just sold my 20" iMac with the exact same specs (but with 4GB Ram) and no keyboard/mouse for £540 so I'd say yes, it's a very good price.

Also a note that Adobe has a transfer program where you can exchange your PC version for a OSX version for much less than outright buying new software, unless you are running on CS1 or something.
