I asked him how he found my site and what he thought. He said that he has never even been on my site but he as software where he types in keywords such as in this case "web design (area)"
Then what it does is it lists all the email address from web design companies in that area of the keywords. Then he just sent the same email bcc to all the web design companies.
I was wondering if you guys know what tool / software he might have been using to do this? As it would be very handy!!
Cheers
Paul

If your ISP finds you using this method (which is pamming) they may have issues with it.
If you are in the UK, it is actually against the law.

I was looking at mail chimp. Ive created my html email with tables which was a pain.
Found a few different site / software to do this. Was just wondering if anyone had experience of this. As most web design sites i have seen offer Email marketing campaigns as part of their SEO, so i guess they are doing mail chimp or something targeting the clients keywords?

I use Campaign Monitor. Same sort of thing as Mail Chimp (I imagine..) but CM got to me first!
Love the service.
One thing I would like to know is how some companies, for example Apple, send me an email and I have to click nothing to see the images, where as another company, say La Senza (Yup.. I love being spammed from underwear companies!) requires a 'download images' click?

What i was wondering is, for example is you are looking for email addresses for "builders warrington" for example. If Mail Chimp or other tool brings back a list of 300 email address for that keyword....Doesnt that mean that because all these email addresses have be found - wont they already have a website as their email address is on the internet?
So potentially you will be emailing builders in Warrington that already have a website anyway?
Just wondering if theres a way of targeting people without a website? I know in other scenarios it will work, ie selling a different type of service to businesses.

Campaign Monitor and Mail Chimp are tools that allow us to develop email newsletters, collect subscribers emails from an opt-in form on a website (or you can manually enter the emails) and then send our newsletters out to all of our subscribers. They offer analytics too so we can see who opened the email, what links they clicked etc.
What they don't do is allow you to enter a keyword and then provide you with a list of targeted email addresses to send your email out to. That is (as someone rightly said frowned upon and possibly illegal). If you're looking to obtain email addresses I believe you can buy them from certain companies. I know you can do the same for actual physical addresses.
Hope that helps.

Just note that coding emails for email marketing is huge subject and not as simple of designing the email using tables. When you start to look into it you'll realise it's a huge subject in itself.
