I noticed there isn't really any employment advice on here (or i haven't looked hard enough!) so I thought I would ask...

What are you looking for in a web designer?

This will help all the freelancers on here find employment and approach a job vacancy in the right manner (hopefully) :)

Great post.

I recently had a few interviewees come in for my assistant role.

I read through 86 CVs of web developers and designers and only 10 stood out, and only 3 were good enough to call in for an interview.

THE BIGGEST THING, is don't bore me, i didn't care for the life stories first, the ten short listed CVs got straight to the point in this sort of order:

Name, age, location and other personal details
Quick Skill Set (just a basic list of all of the technologies and languages known in order of strengths)
History/experience (if any, and including any hobby work that is similar to the job you are after)
All the rest on a usual CV (why your great, Qualifications etc...)

The Quick Skill Set got my attention, made me read onto the experience, if you havn't got any (the guy we hired hadn't much) list your related hobby's, it shows you are passionate enough about the industry to also do it as a hobby. Your only ever going to benefit your employer if you are learning to do a better job while also out side of work too!

Verify the past experience, track record of the consultant and feedbacks from the past project owners. If you feel that the consultant is apt for your requirement, hire him and allot the work to him.
