Hey guys,

Originally I had been getting this problem:

I have been getting the same problem, on 2 different computers, on both WAMP and XAMPP when trying to install Magento.

Both computers, using both WAMp and XAMPP produce the same frustrating error: Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 60 seconds exceeded in C:\\XAMPP\\xampp\\htdocs\\magento\\lib\\Varien\\Db\\Adapter\\Pdo\\Mysql.php on line 276

This problem has now been fixed. HOWEVER, as always, there is now another problem:

Error in file: "C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\code\core\Mage\Tag\sql\tag_setup\mysql4-upgrade-0.7.5-0.7.6.php" - SQLSTATE[42S01]: Base table or view already exists: 1050 Table 'tag_properties' already exists

Trace:
#0 C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\Resource\Setup.php(390): Mage::exception('Mage_Core', 'Error in file: ...')
#1 C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\Resource\Setup.php(289): Mage_Core_Model_Resource_Setup->_modifyResourceDb('upgrade', '0.7.1', '0.7.7')
#2 C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\Resource\Setup.php(233): Mage_Core_Model_Resource_Setup->_upgradeResourceDb('0.7.1', '0.7.7')
#3 C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\Resource\Setup.php(161): Mage_Core_Model_Resource_Setup->applyUpdates()
#4 C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\App.php(363): Mage_Core_Model_Resource_Setup::applyAllUpdates()
#5 C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\App.php(295): Mage_Core_Model_App->_initModules()
#6 C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\Mage.php(596): Mage_Core_Model_App->run(Array)
#7 C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\magento\index.php(80): Mage::run('', 'store')
#8 {main}

Any ideas for this problem? I would try and sort this out on the Magento forums but the level of help and support on their is minuscule compared to the generous folks we have here! Thanks, Ali

I steer well clear of Magento but there are several fixes around for this, such as:

http://askmatt.co.uk...led-how-to-fix/
http://www.magentoco...wthread/199207/

If you're tackling sites using enterprise level applications like Magento it's well worth investing in the full version and getting direct developer support. Let's face it, if a live site develops a problem and you can't fix it, you're client won't be very happy :)

Thanks for that :)

Yes, I'm aware that Magento can be quite buggy but it was the only free eCommerce platform that seemed to have that professional feel to it.

Is there another you would suggest?

There are 100's (if not 1000's) of shopping carts to choose from.

http://www.shopping-cart-reviews.com lists a couple of hundred, http://www.practicalecommerce.com/ writes articles about many more including interviews with real store owners (look for "Cart of the week" entries.

If you want a clean, accessibly and well built cart then http://www.tradingeye.com/ is worth a look. Personally I'm a big fan of http://www.jshop.co.uk - have used that on dozens of sites.
