Hey guys, I have just finished uni studying web design and am now looking to give freelancing a go. I have just started advertising on Google adwords and am looking for other ways I can attract clients to my website.

What would you suggest?

I agree completely with both of the above. If you can't find any local businesses with websites, locate some independents, approach them personally and explain what (for an excellent price) you will provide them with and why they should really have a web presence.

Read up on ROI, lead generation and conversions then sell this idea to them.

Show that your websites can increase sales and generate more leads.

Use Gumtree.com its free to post on daily. I get the majority of my enquiries from there.

Oh and a Facebook group/page is also a good start. It's amazing how many of your friends friends would be interested in a website.

I'm curious to know how many clients you have received since you started advertising on there?

I get a couple of enquiries a month through Gumtree. They either want a quote, what they require is not in my skill set or totally ridiculous requests. But recently I've got two new clients on the cards.

Using Facebook group I've had 3 clients. And enquiries as well. But you can't please every equiry.

Just remember it's all free so it's better than doing nothing. Also try doing a mail shot. The success rate is between 1-4% but it's another low cost option.

I guess, social networking websites specially like facebook/twitter are most helpful to advertise your services. Nowadays, u will find everybody attached with social networking websites

How much do you guys usually charge for your services? I've just been checking gumtree and I've found people offering five page websites for £49 - £70 and I was going to offer it at £150 but I'm now reconsidering even though one of my teachers once said that my price is too low. :/

Also I have a Facebook page offering my services but I have never had anyone contact me so I feel as though I'm doing something wrong. Any of you have any suggestions on how to gain more interest?

A few websites I have used are.

Freelancer.co.uk
Student Gems
People Per Hour

Nowadays many jobs are from contacts. Get a project from your contact first. Email marketing campaign is a fabulous effective method, and can be your next choice. :)
