Hi

Has anyone had any experience of advertising on Facebook via pay per click? I have used Google ads before and was wondering if spending my money on Facebook would be better?

Thanks

In my opinion, Facebook is loads better.

It is more to the fact of being so highly targeted, and as a result, you tend to get a much higher click-thru-rate - but it does depend on the type of business you have and your target audience.

When I first started in the industry, I did a campaign using just £250 for a brand called Pomegreat (when the were very new) and low and behold, in just 3 months I had trippled their web traffic on just £250 - amazing power of FB ads if used correctly.

I rarely use Google PPC, but often use FB PPC, but that may just be my preference :)

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I think I will give it a try because like you said it's targeted. I know that using Google adwords your ad can appear in all sorts of places.

Trippling traffic is great but did it translate into conversions? Did they make their £250 back?

Thanks

Yes they did - but then, they are a global company now, so to them, £250 is a drop in the ocean. Another good example is a little niche market I have for racing pigeons - I created a fan page to advertise a new online magazine and only managed 4 fans - with a £10 budget, I am up to 70 over this weekend alone, and as I say, it only cost me £10... so there is always a return on investment there.

Can I enquire about what business you are in or trying to advertise?

I personally haven't tried it but i would presume it would be very effective as it is very targeted, it is my understanding that you can choose your exact target audience which is a very big bonus due to its 400+ million members..!

To be honest Oliver; advertising your web design business may be tricky - I find that FB ppc works best on products as opposed to services; or if they are services, then they need to be services that people have a keen interest in; by targeting people who have an interest in web design, you will only get people like you... other designers etc...

BUT you should highly target your local area, anyone with business in their likes and generally go for quite a broad approach

Best of luck mate

I had a go last year just to test it and thought it was very good. You can target a lot better and I think it competes with Adwords for ROI.

Thanks Terydinho, I'll make a note of that. I can see what you're saying about people being interested in web design attract web design ads.

Thanks for all your comments.

I prefer facebook advertisement. Because in my opinion, I've spent more time on social networking site (as facebook) than search engine site (google). During that time, those advertisings make more effective.

How do you guys think a furniture business would do with fb ppc? We have pretty good results via google ppc, but it is has gotten more expensive over the years.

There is no definitive answer, every business is different. Ideally you should test Google, Facebook and others like Bing and Yahoo to see what works for you.

If you are advertising something people search for such as web design or furniture you will almost certainly get better results from Google, Bing and Yahoo.

Facebook is useful for raising brand awareness and promoting products/services to certain demographics. but it is not as targetted as someone actively searching for your product or service.
