Hey guys,

I have a website and am wanting to sell an eBook I have authored. Because there is not a lot of money to be made I can't afford an expensive shopping cart system or hosting so I have a basic hosting package from heart internet and a domain.

I have set up a PayPal 'buy now' button where I only pay per transaction with no monthly fee. So far I have managed to direct buyers to a download page after the payment has been made, but this is only assuming they do not stupidly close their browser window before clicking finish.

So the question is... How do I make a 'buy now' button send an email to the buyer with a link to their download?

I have read through the HTML variables but can't quite figure it out. Any ideas?

Thanks guys :)

I am not specific on the email side of things, but I know if you are looking for a way to sell e-books online without a big hosting cost etc... you could look into Payloadz, I believe it does all what you would need it to and redirect back to your site, I am guessing they need to be directed off your site to Paypal anyway? if so then Payloadz does this for you, then sets digital downloads as well, good luck!

Enable IPN in your paypal account (I think Paypal sends IPNs to buy now transactions). Then, using PayPals IPN script as a starting point do all your processing from there. E.g. send out email, update your orders tab;e, create a unique link for their download etc.

I'd recommend E-Junkie and Payloadz. They take care of all the IPN business for you - I use E-Junkie for selling Magento themes. You'll get notifications when your product sells, and you can download reports of all transactions.

It's also possible for each transaction data to be sent to your site so that you can save it in your own database if you like.
