Hi everyone

I would like to have a go at setting up an online store, to go into my current website and have the option of using os commerce, zen cart, or cubecart.

The products that I want to sell is downloadable content only and would like to have a drop down menu for selection of different types to choose of the same product as they proceed to check out and was wondering which of these carts incorpriate this feature and if so which would be the easiest to use and to also modify the template to look close to my website? also how will the downloadable feature work as in will I have to mail them th product or will it automatically recall the it fro the database and they recieve it after the checkout?

My last question would be, which software is more used within companies as I would also prefer learning a cart system that could come in handy when applying for jobs later in the future?

Please keep in mind that my php skills are useless and just getting started into the basics of things and if you can give a link to how to install the downloadable aspect to the cart I'd be even more grateful.

Cheers ahead of time and hear from you all soon.

Hi mooncart, I hope someone will beable to offer you more guidence but I thought I would chime in with what little I know LOL I have been looking into shopping carts lately too and your comment for downloadable options was something I also had on my list, I know Zencart doesn't have this option but another cart not on your list is opencart and from what I understand it's relatively easy to customise and it's open source, I haven't tried it out yet so i can't give you a personal opinion. Oscommerce from what I've read uses tables?? this im not sure on as I haven't tried it out but if your learning webdesign I would think you would prefer to use CSS based design. Magento is also very popular and peopel mention it all the time when recomending shopping carts but I've also heard it's quiet taxing on your server resources and maybe a bit too heavy for smaller jobs. I have a few other carts on my short list that I'm about to try out so I'll let you know what I find out.

Thank you for the quick reply and knowledge given I appreciate it a lot.

I think Magento could be a bit heavy as my shopping area, as it isn’t the main focus point of my website and wont have hundreds of varied products to sell and as for zencart I was trying to find out if that would have this feature but I couldn’t see anywhere so cheers for informing me of not using that cart.

I’ll have to have a look into opencart and see how that is and decide from there but cheers once again for pointing me in the right directions and hope your site goes well when you start your cart system.

Hi mate, like joralyd above I'm just throwing in my two cents but something I recommend a lot on here is Open Cart. It open source and css based so you should be able to integrate it. Also has downloadable products. I dont know whether Open Cart "have a drop down menu for selection of different types to choose of the same product as they proceed to check out" as I dont fully understand what you mean tbh.

Edit just fully read the thread and joralyd has already mentioned Open Cart, my bad. It allows for related products if that is what you mean?
