Hello everyone,
I've been using freeware shopping carts for a while (namely Zen Cart and Magento), hosted on Heart Internet and just seem to be having problem after problem.
I've used Heart for ages and never had any probs with plain old html, but after several re-installs of Zen and an impending one of Magento I'm starting to wonder if it's my hosting that is the problem.
Heart say they support Zen Cart and a number of other carts, but I've had my hosting suspended several times because of server processes which are obviously to do with Zen Cart. And now I've installed Magento and can't even get into it!
Has anyone else come across this? I'm starting to feel like I'm fed up with freeware, but no one else seems to be having so many issues so I'm wondering if it's Heart. If anyone can give me any advice I'd be very grateful.
Thanks
Liz

Hi,
I haven't had any accounts suspended with Zen Cart installed. Don't give up on freeware just yet, there's lots of alternatives out there. Take a look at http://webtecker.com...cart-solutions/
Have you asked Heart support what the issue is?

Hi
Im a Heart internet reselelr, and freelance website developer. We have Magento, Joomla, virtuemart, OScommerce, Zencart, Gallery2, Drupal, many forums and many other fairly intensive scripts installed in sites on Heart Internet. Up till now none have had any issues with CPU usage and server processes. We even have sites with 2-3 of the packages integrated together with no issues, and some fairly high profile busy ones
The one issue that did ring the allarm bells over at Heart Internet was Streaming Video on 1 site, where it often used more than 5% of the server CPU, and that was resolved with a quick tweak
As a footnote
Zencart is a totally different breed of cart to Magento. Magento is Massive, and complex and new in comparison to Zencart which is much more lightweight. If Zencart is tripping things up.. you have a more fundamental issue, that maybee your server stats can clear up

Hello,
For working magento and zencart you need to increase php memory limit and even apache timeout.
For this you need either .htaccess php rules enabled or custom php.ini your account.
Thats the reason we got special E-commerce plans for our clients, have no complains till data using Magento and zencart :
http://www.webhost.u...ce_hosting.html
http://www.webhost.u...eb_hosting.html
But at the same time if you have high traffic or products listed on Magento my advice will be to look for a dedicated server option to get its variable customized as per your store requirement, this at times is difficult to handle on shared accounts.
But best option to have Magento working fast is to get your store on Dedicated server or VPS to start with.

Hi folks
Thanks for your replies. Looks like it's just me, then!
You've confirmed my opinion that Magento is a little overkill for my needs, so I'm going to have another bash at Zen Cart.
All the best
