I operate a few websites which require quite regular version updates. Each update generally requires all files to be replaced. I remember a while ago seeing someone mention that they create a new folder for each version and then when they want to make a version live they make a symlink from public_html (or whatever your web root is) to that folder. When they want to move to a new version they just change the symlink and this makes it possible to move between versions very easily and quickly.

Does anyone here use this method and if so how do you go about doing it and what problems, if any, have you found with it?

Cheers,

Ben

You could do it like that and it would work fine. Or just rename site_version_x to public_html when you want it to go live.
