Brief description:
Notepad ++ is a free (as in "free speech" and also as in "free beer") source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several languages. Running in the MS Windows environment, its use is governed by GPL License.
Based on a powerful editing component Scintilla, Notepad++ is written in C++ and uses pure Win32 API and STL which ensures a higher execution speed and smaller program size. By optimizing as many routines as possible without losing user friendliness, Notepad++ is trying to reduce the world carbon dioxide emissions. When using less CPU power, the PC can throttle down and reduce power consumption, resulting in a greener environment.

Web site link: http://netbeans.org/
Price: Free
Brief description: I don't do static sites anymore, so everything I do has some PHP content. For more complex projects it's a godsend. For example, I can start typing a WordPress template function and have it autocompleted with a popup listing the arguments - 9 times out of 10 I don't have to look anything up in the Codex.
HTML and CSS support is good, with autoformatting, code folding and syntax highlighting plus the ability to save and insert code snippets.
Added bonuses: local/remote file sync via FTP, SVN support, too much to list. Go chck it out. It rocks.

Came here to post this. Sublime text is easily the best ide I've ever seen. I'd buy it if it wasn't for the high price, just to support the developer. Also, that screenshot is from ST1, ST2 has a slightly nicer gui (better shaped tabs, etc)
