Hi
Just started using bitly for shortening links. However, I was just curious as to how Google would view these links. Would it affect SEO in any way?

YOu could also use google's own url builder - http://www.google.co...en&answer=55578

This way you can integrate the stats into google analytics and see stats for your particular link under campaigns.

Wroye a quick article about it a while ago in relation to twitter, but you can usem it for any url: http://www.web-desig...ogle-analytics/

Had a look but can't see any mentioning of 'shortening'

It;s showing you how to use the google url shortener for twitter. You can apply this to anything really.

So say you wanted a shortened url for www.smeg.com/web.

In your url shortener you'd shorten the following url:

www.smeg.com/web?utm_source=smeg&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=somecampaign

As long as you have google analytics running on smeg.com you'll see your new campaign under the campiagns menu.

I just used my article as an example, that you could adapt :)

As far as I know bit.ly does a 301 too.
