Hello! I am building a site for a musician. I've embedded an mp3 player on the main page, which works fine. The trouble lies in the fact that when you mouse-over each song a RealPlayer popup is activated asking if you would like to download the song. This is an option and distraction I do not want.

Research tells me that the cleanest solution is to block access using my .htaccess file. However, while I was able to block the popup by doing so, access to the music was blocked, as well, and the songs would not play.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? Or maybe another, better alternative? Thank you!

I'm not sure but:-
Is it not your own computer that is doing this and nothing to do with the website? Other peoples experience would be different who had different players installed.

I believe that is probably true, however, I would like to globally deny download access, no matter the individual computer setting. This is especially true for RealPlayer, which seems to come installed on a large percentage of computers.

I know that on MySpace.com, which has a huge number of muscians, there is an option to deactivate download possibilites of their standard mp3 players.

It will depend how you're embedding the mp3. Myspace uses a flash player just like Youtube does for videos.

Can you elaborate on that a bit? What would be the different ways that I might embed the mp3?

To clarify a bit on my MySpace comment; In MySpace I am able to mouse-over and listen to my clients music without the RealPlayer "Download This Clip" popup appearing. On the site I'm building my embedded player offers "Download This Clip" option, which I don't want. My client tells me that the MySpace player offers the ability to enable or disable downloads. Having that option disabled, I assume, is why the popup does not appear.
