Hi,

www.browsershots.org

Is a tool that allows you to test your website in many different browsers.

You simply submit the website you would like to test, check the boxes next to the required browsers you want, then click submit and hey-presto... screenshots of how it looks. Genious!

You can also set Screen Resolution, Colour Depth, Java enabled etc...

It's great.

Also check out: http://browsers.evolt.org They have an absolutely massive collection of older browsers to download, it's rather impressive! :)

Check it out :)

Ben

I got exciteed but then found that it doesn't test on all browsers! - only tests on Internet Explorer on the PC - what about firefox/mozilla/opera/netscape - they all throw up different issues on the PC...plus it only test on Safari on the Mac. It's good but I think I'd prefer to actually go and do the testing myself.

I like the fact that it concentrates on Linus though as I've got no access to a linux machine - so I might just use it for that. I;ve never seem my-igloo on a linux machine.

I checked it out and it does seem limited. I think I ratehr test it myself on my own browsers and adapt the code that way.

Thats pretty cool! How long does it usually take for the screen shots to show up? My website will probably do pretty good.

Time wise...hmmm it depends, for me i tested ie6 and safari and waited around 5 minutes, which wasn't to bad it's not like you have to wait, you can just surf and occasionally refresh the page. :)

Hey thanks Pamil! Very useful, it has a lot of information, will have to look it over again later when I have more time. I'm not too sure how important it is to design the site with the ability to be seen with the older versions of HTML - I figure my target audience will usually be (and from what statcounter recorded) viewing it through Mozilla, IE, or Safari at a screen resolution of 1024x768. At least that's what most people were using. I did have some people with Javascript turned off, so I fixed my site so it doesn't use Javascript. It's hard to make a site viewable over several different platforms and browsers - to make things worse, people always have different settings and don't always upgrade.. are we fighting a losing battle?

Nope. Not a losing battle. A challenging battle. But there are still 17% users that have low resolution screens, and others have PDAs and mobile phones to access the Web. End even more users (including yours truly) have higher resolution monitors. Are you sure a screen resolution of 1024x768 is your REAL target? It's also believed that by the end of 2008 all mobile users will want to go online with their phones... I suppose designing with standards is the best practice.

I tried the site listed in the first post... it does list options for Firefox, Safari, etc. I'm still waiting on results - do those results just not come through? Or have they updated the site?

Your Web browser is a translation device. It takes a document written in the HTML language and translates it into a formatted Web page. The result of this translation is a little like giving two human translators a sentence written in French and asking them to translate it into English. Both will get the meaning across, but may not use the same words to do so.
Taken from here
I'm also new to the web design, so this helped me as well :friends:
cheers

lol... just saw how old this is <_<
And I got my hopes up for being smart :angry3:

I have just tried a number of different things for the first time and thought the following was by far the best:-

Link - Spoon.net

It's just a shame they don't have IE - from what I have read they did have it and were told to stop by microsoft, I think they are working to get it back. This just seems better because unlike some of the others it isn't just a snapshot you can move from page to page in your website. I haven't tried browserhsots though so can't comment but I did use browserlabs and thought the above was much better as it was realtime.

I also used IE tester which is pretty good, only thing is I couldn't get IE9 set up as this isn't automatically part of the set up. I also found the IE tab firefox add on pretty useful but that only lets you see IE7 and IE8.

Anyway just thought I would add my view

OK, but you can find a particularly accurate intelligence test simply by going here:

http://www.best-iq-test.com

The score you get with an IQ test is useless if the result is not compared to people our age. In accordance with fresh tests done by people your age, this company estimates instantly all intelligence quotient scores in order to make the evaluation of your intelligence quotient exceptionally accurate. Moreover, we allocate a score in line with the clinically recognized Wechsler Scale in which 100 is the normal IQ.

I tried it! Cool !! :clapping:
