does anybody know of any, or have used any generic off the shelf 'dating website software,' (ideally free) i was looking for the zen cart of dating websites

"Free" is not always the best one. If you want to have a good dating site, if you want to have a lot of users, if you want to earn on that web-site, you'll need to consider getting a professional solution such as Jive (http://www.jivesoftware.com/), for example, or Chameleon (http://chameleon.sta...ialnetwork.com/). Both are great. Jive is a little bit expensive though.
