Hello friends,

i was just wondering that if say someone choose adoamin name close to a very reputed company does it help to get traffic to his site i am explaining this with an example say if someone keeps his domain as say www.micro-soft.com instead of a domain name of his choice does it boost traffic and increase leads??

I would imagine that your site would then have to be microsoft related otherwise how would you make the content relevant and use the right keywords and phrases to get it up the rankings?

It sounds very much like typosquatting, a form of cybersquatting. It will not help you with search engine rankings and is considered bad practice or even illegal in some cases.

I have also heard of cases where the firm ie Microsoft in this case, take the domain holder to court and they are ordered to hand all of the similar domains over to the company they were copying. Doing what you suggest is seen as bad practice and you would be wasting a lot of time if you built your rankings up on "micro-soft" just for Microsoft then to be able to get a court to order you to hand the domain over.

keywords in domain names have very little, if any benefit now. If you see them ranking well it is more likely that they are there because of their inbound links.

Only if people make spelling mistakes ... I don't think microsoft would have a problem with micro-soft ... if they were that bothered about it they'd have bought it...
