Im looking to try prestashop for a project ive got on at the moment but the client needs some sort of online credit card processing and as far as i can tell no such thing exists in prestashop. Does anyone know of a solution ?

Hi,
Yeah, as with all E-Commerce solution, you have to integrate your own credit card processor.
The most common are PayPal and Google Checkout.
They're really easy to integrate/install and both are exceptionally cheap.
The only downside is that Google Checkout (as of September) only accepts; MasterCard, Visa and Solo. It dropped Switch and Maestro when MasterCard imposed 3D secure. PayPal on the other hand can accept; MasterCard, Visa, Maestro, Switch, Solo, American Express, Diners, JCB and all the rest of them and the international ones.
I'd probably go for PayPal if acceptance is your priority.
Google Checkout is just as good though and personally I prefer it.

Thanks Britzin, i know of paypal and googlecheckout but i think my clients after processing card payments in some other way. Theyve asked if they can process card payments themselves, through their site. I dont think thats possible with paypal and google since at some point you have to enter the google / paypal checkout and its processed by them ?

Oh right, I understand you know.
It is possible to process credit card payments yourself.
BUT! You have to use a different sort of system, usually provided by a bank/financial company - I.e. Barclays Internet Merchant Account or Possibly SagePay. You're right in the sense that it is not possible for you to self process payments through google checkout or paypal. (I.e. I believe it is also illegal aswell to take someones credit card details separately and put them through paypal/google checkout your self - there's also certain problems you may encounter doing this like account passwords etc.)
Additionally you need a license and have to meet certain security protocols and conditions if you are self/offline processing details.
It's only really appropriate for big companies. It's not advisable for a small time individual to authorise payments them selves.

Sage pay looks interesting and i guess thats the sort of thing he'd be after, theres also liqpay ive just come across is that any good ? Also would a license be required with these, it looks like the payments are handled by these third parties so in a sense hes not handling the payments directly ? He's going to purchase an ssl certificate for security etc so im guessing that will be enough.

I've personally never used it, or heard of it so cannot comment. But SagePay (previously Protx) is very well known and widely used.
They do SagePay Direct, but that will require quite a bit more expense on the hosting and quite a few extra PCI Compliance rules. I tend to suggest SagePay Form to most of my clients.
There is SagePay Server, which is essentially SagePay Form in a IFRAME but there's no module released for this yet.
