I have been mulling over a shopping cart solution for my site for about two weeks now and haven't found the answers I'm looking for.

The basic premise of the site flow would be that my users that are logged into their site account can hit shop. The setup must allow them to make a purchase of site credits then update their user account with the credit total.

I don't know where to begin working on a system that works like this. Any solutions or tips?

It may help to detail the type of product your wishing to sell, for example is it items for download, physical its for delivery, or are you looking for a membership type system?

It would be more of a subscription type system rather than download or shipping.

The system will actually be for a browser game where the user can purchase in game special credits to then use them to buy upgrades and exclusive items. No monthly subscription system.

I would imagine a custom development is the best way to go, as your requirements are quite unique.
