Hello
I have a website www.alternatorsnstarters.co.uk which I designed myself using Microsoft office live small business design tools. Now I know it needs a lot more work but the problem I’m having is that I am now getting the visits per month but I am not getting the quotes. I cannot have prices on the site as there are over 6000 alternators and starter motors and the prices change often. So I opted for a quote section. I figure there must be something wrong with my site design. Could anyone help by giving me some tips or know of any free website design tool sites where I can download flashy boxes and so forth.

Best Regards

Julian

Unfortunately, if I may be blunt, the site does look a little dated. Whether that will put people off buying an alternator I don't know.

Like many other visitors searching round to find the best price for something, I can't see what I need - the price - though I do read that you have great prices.

However I understand what you are saying with "I cannot have prices on the site as there are over 6000 alternators and starter motors and the prices change often.", so I would put words to that effect on there to explain why there are no prices. Make it bold, easy to spot and obvious you are only trying to help by not listing over 6000 prices.

cinnamondm has hit the nail on the head - to be honest, the first thing I though when I saw your site was a poor and dated layout - which in eCommerce terms usually equates to a lack of trust...

I would suggest looking at getting your site rebuilt by a professional agency or a good freelancer - sorry if that sounds blunt, but I am just trying to be helpful :)

All good advice so far!

With online commerce it really has to be "instant" nowadays, people don't want to faff around requesting quotes for what are essentially off the shelf items - I can go down to my local motor factors and get nearly any sort of alternator I want in less than an hour :)

My advice would be to get a good ecommerce site built, and one with an easy way of bulk updating prices if they change frequently, plus the ability to order and pay online.
