Email marketing is an extremely useful tool to promote your business. It is very cheap and easy to experiment with.

Get permission before you send emails though, there is nothing worse than spam emails.

Check out Mailchimp for a free email marketing trial and has great analytics to show how useful campaigns have been.

Echoing the above. But stressing it even more! Email marketing can be fantastic for business. Why not give it a go?

Remember though, the subject of sending html is huge. If you think getting websites to work across the range of browsers is hard, well getting html emails to display the same across the plethora of email clients is even harder. If you're starting out, I'd recommend simple text based emails.

The hard part is building and maintaining your email database. Maybe offer freebies or other incentives to encourage signups. And then you also have to keep them from unsubscribing. Nobody likes to be spammed so always have great content on every newsletter. If done correctly, it's a fantastic way of increasing loyalty and driving repeat traffic to your site.
