I use Dreamweaver CS4, I think it's awesome. But, I always wonder what experienced web developers use.

I have fallen in love with Coda (for the mac), I used to use DW but got bored of it.

On the PC I tend to use PHP designer.

Im not a developer "yet"..! This may seem a silly thing to say but I have a few GUI loaded and everytime I go to use one I end up "not liking it" and go back to NP++ etc.

But I am only begining so things may change??

A long while ago i migrated to aptana from dreamweaver. Dreamweaver always handy with auto completion and other specialities, but if you are going to code dynamic language like PHP, aptana barely beats dreamweaver. Because aptana has lots of features like real debug, can collect classes and variables, subversion integration, auto complete and many more, also it's free... Using and configuring aptana is tricky, but once you get familiar with it, it's not problem. Also, i tried komodo edit but it didn't satisfy me.

I see here for Mac and Win software :D

For those who are looking some programming tools for Linux, I would advise Geany for small projects and NetBeans for large projects.

NetBeans, MySQL Workbench, Notepad++, and Adobe CS4 (Dreamweaver sparingly).

I keep meaning to switch to PHP designer though, just get frustrated that it doesn't do what NetBeans does the same way so everything takes a little longer.

CS4 package all the way, Dreamweaver is great. Notepad++ is alright too, better than crappy Notepad.

I've been using Open source 'Aptana Studio Professional' for the last week after years with Dreamweaver, I must say how impressed I've been with Aptana.

I also use TopStyle which is difficult to beat when it comes to CSS.

I use Dreamweaver CS3 at work and Dreamweaver CS4 at home. I think the built-in FTP and the way DW manages your files is perfect. Plus the live view in CS4 is a god send and I have also started playing around with Textmate at work as i use a Mac :)

The general answer will be what ever they feel comfortable with. It's like asking which pen to write with? each pen has is positives and negatives, and at the end of the day it's the writers choice ;)

Billing:
Billings 3 (so I'm not making up time at month's end)

Code/Design/Optimize/Implement:
Dreamweaver ('cause I'm a lazy SOB and it almost automatically closes tags. It also neatens up the code after I've nudged everything out of place)
Aptana Studio & RadRails
Photoshop
Illustrator (I may be the lone ranger, but I do page layout with Illustrator)
Flash
PHPMyAdmin
Fetch
Dashcode (for quick changes to code)
TextEdit (for .htaccess files)
Gzip
yuicompressor
SSH
Parallels running 4 virtual machines(WinXP w/IE6/IE7/IE8 + Win7) for verifying I've adequately hacked a page to work in those busted-a$$ browsers
FontAgentPro
HTMLTidy, W3C validator(s), Firebug, YSlow, Web Developer Tools, etc. w/FF

SEO:
Google Webmaster Tools
Google Analytics
Google Keyword Tools
Nathan Anderson's SEO Club

Video:
Final Cut Studio
Quicktime (no more Camtasia!)
FlashVideoEncoder
Flowplayer

Backup, Security & Sanity:
CarbonCopyCloner
Norton AV
iTunes

Nothing new - just more of the same...for Mac folks anyway.

I'm not sure I'm much of a developer although apparently I am because I have started using a CMS and adapting it...
but here's my two pennies:

For coding - Smultron (free for macs)

CMS - ModX (open source)

Vector images - Inkscape (free)

For other image editing - GIMP (free equivalent of photoshop)

CuteFTP (for macs) - for FTP

For virtual server - XXAMP (free version)

I certainly couldn't afford Dreamweaver even if I wanted it. Quite fancy Coda tho....

Was using Aptana Studio, until they released V2.0 last week. I'm trialing phpDesigner 7 at the moment, which looks really promising.

FTP - FileZilla

Local server - WAMP

Designing - Adobe Software

Why did you stop using Aptana? The first release was buggy so I waited. They dropped 2.0.1 today and it 'seems' stable - so far.

for simple text editors, have you tried using PSPad? I find it way better than Notepad++ for some reason..

Here's what I use...

Coding: Netbeans 7.0 - The editor i used to love was Aptana, but I ragequit the program because it didn't have a simple file syncing solution and I didn't enjoy creating projects on my actual server. Netbeans has this and it's absolutely perfect in my eyes for the type of work I do (mostly PHP & javascript)

Design: Inkscape & Gimp - I know how to get the most out of free software ;)

Web: Firefox, Chromium, Opera

All my text editing is done with notepad++. At work they set me up with dreamweaver. If you set up the ftp through dw, it is easier then always switching to filezilla to upload the files, but I just can't stand dreamweavers editor.

At home I do all of my stuff locally so notepad++ is super fast for me, and I use WAMP.

For database work, my favorite is toad, though I don't have too much experience with anything else.

Photoshop as well

I tend to use a varied range of software, depending on whether or not I am using my laptop or my Desktop PC.

Here is an idea:

Coding: Adobe DreamWeaver CS5 and Microsoft Web 2.0
Design: Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Illustrator CS5

Best Regards,
Michael Swan

Used to use on windows:
notepad++
sqlyog

Have used dreamweaver, was good at one point, but I wanted to get away from auto completion.

Now OSX exclusive:

textmate
sequel pro

Used to use coda, but it used to crash a lot on me.

CODING:
Dreamweaver CS5: Although I seldom use any of its features I just code with it. Kinda got used to it, and as said previously you tend to stick with what you are comfortable with.

GRAPHICS:
Fireworks CS5: I have always used variants of this. Simple to use and creates images for the web rather than for a myriad of other uses.

WEB:
Filezilla
phpMyAdmin
Firefox, IE, Safari, Chrome, Opera, Opera Mobile.
AdobeBrowserLab

WAMP running 24/7 on local server.

Good to see a range of alternatives listed here, might give some a trial.

I first started out with Notepad++ then moved on to Dreamweaver but for the price it's not that great for someone who doesn't use the WYSIWYG editor function (which i don't).

I have just downloaded Aptana and will give it a try.

If I'm coding on Linux i use Bluefish.
