As many as possible.
You also want to look at your conversion rate.
10,000 visitors, 1 conversion isnt that good.
1,000 visitors, 100 conversions is much better.
Its not all about traffic (although alot of people seem to think it is)

Yeah - too many people are obsessed with the amount of traffic their website gets. Although, more traffic means more potential customers, it's about the conversion rate.
I would definately not concerntrate your efforts on increasing traffic as you will probably find that 80% of the traffic you get is redundant anyway.
Concentrate your efforts on having links to your site in the right place, e.g. freeindex etc. and on conversion.
You can track conversion in GA and this is time much better spent.

I agree. Not only does non-targeted traffic reduce your conversion rates but it also increases your bounce rates and if Google can see that i.e. Analytics, they are likely to use it as part of the rating of your site pages.

Great advice from folks... conversion rates are more important than visitor numbers and then, more important than both is the value of the clients you get.
Personally I don't chase traffic or 'SEO' - one well-placed ad, well written and offering the right thing to the right people blows 'traffic' out the water.

There is no point getting lots of traffic if the content is junk. Design a good site and optimise it and then you will get good traffic and more importantly a good conversion rate

Traffic has no ending point and the more the better and you can use the SEO as well as PPC programs for boosting the page views of your site.
