Hi everyone,

I have numerous clients who are targeting local customers via SEO. When typing in a local search term, I'd really like to get them appearing on the Google map that often appears at the top with businesses in the local area that are related to the search term (Local business results).

I'm aware the listing is made by using Google Local Business Center, however, is there any SEO or techniques I can apply to get my clients within the 10 local business listings in the map?

My clients are on the 1st page of Google for organic listings related to the local terms, but only ever page 4 or less for Local Business Results.

Any advice would be much appreciated please :)

Dont quote me on this, but i think the way google business listings work is, first come, first serve sort of thing. Basically if you are the 100th person to add your business to any given area, well your going to appear as number 100.

Same as normal SEO, use keywords in your title, desc, services, add as much details as you can.

I'm not one hundred percent but I don't think it's about when you added your business to the local business tool, it's more likely to do with your IP address location and where you search from, it'll do the nearest results or something similar. Andy Mayhem is your best bet to ask about this.

Have you tried making sure that you have added as many categories as you can to the Google Map listing. I think there is a maximum of 5 allowed. You do not need to be bound by what Google suggests in the drop-down box, just add your own keywords.

Google Maps are quite difficult to fathom at times. My listing had about 7 websites listed on it then out of the blue it only had one!
