As the topic description says, do you think that a freelancer needs a logo?

I don't think you need to have a logo, but I guess a logo can help people to remember your site more easily. Not sure, but I think probably gives you your own "brand" if that makes sense?

Yeah it doesn't matter a great deal. If branding/logo design is something you do or wish to offer as a service then it wouldn't hurt. Otherwise, like a lot of others, plain text or graphical text should be fine.

A logo works when it is relevant to be honest - some of the best logos in the world aren't really anything more than type (for example, look at Sony et al)

I would personally say, if you can get away with a text only logo and make it work, then do that :)

A great example of where logo's work for the good is: http://www.orangecoat.com/ excellent use of a creative logo :)
