How long do old domains last on google?

I have a website that was taken down about 3 weeks ago. However the domain name is still registering on google quite high. Is this normal, how long until it should disappear from google?

If you go to google webmaster section, and confirm with them it's your domain, You can remove it. Same applies to yahoo. Dunno about other search engines.
