A word of warning:

Beware of "fancy" forum features, such as karma, plus-one-ing, minus-one-ing, etc. A related forum enabled various features which were presumably designed to encourage interaction ("stroke this user", "bitchslap this user", etc - can you imagine?), and all it did was bring out the worst infantile behaviour in everyone.

If the aim is for web people to help web people, stick to the knitting and prune anything that might interfere.

Thanks for the heads up, we are certainly aware of the pitfalls, we are currently trialing this feature and a few others just to see how it goes :) - if it doesn't work out I can simply turn it off :)

That's cool, one issue though, the emails I'm receiving are titled wrong, the ones about this thread are called 'WEEDING out the spam', for example.

I just wanted to add that I am loving some of the new features, as much as I really miss the "View new posts" button.

My favourite new thing is that I can set my account to automatically watch every thread I reply to, but instead of getting loads of emails, there is a "Watched Topics" list on the right hand side. Now if only it defaulted to Topics view instead of Forum view it would be awesome! (Sorry had to be a moan in there somewhere I'm a woman we're never completely satisfied :p)

Yeah i have to admit this rating thing seems a bit bad, for example i've just rated traxors post in this thread from minus 1 to 0. But it shouldn't even have been rated down by anyone.

It's still there, it's just called "View New Content" just under the Heart Internet Banner. There is also "View new posts within 24 hours" - which is in the footer bar on the forum homepage just before the stats.

Thanks for feedback Bocaj - always appreciated! - I think i've mentioned previously - we are just trialling a few new features just to see how they work and what the community thinks of them, after a little while myself and the moderating team will have a discussion about them and decide if we need to tweak/change any areas, keep them or remove them completely :)

Thanks again.

Is it possible to have only positive ratings, no negatives?

Then the rating system is less likely to be used vindictively (or perhaps only the mods should be allowed to rate posts, both + and -).

I said this on another thread:- "I noticed one thread where someone had made several replies, all rated 1, but nearly everyone else's posts were -1 so I can guess what had happened as his count was nearly 100! I thought it a bit hard to rate nearly all the other posts -1 as some were helpful and others innocuous."

I've noticed one major problem when writing URLs out followed by a comma: http://www.traxor-de....com/index.htm, for example :p , that never used to happen on the old forum, I'm getting a similar issue is when posting long URLs from blogs/forums, it seems to screw it all up, with only half of the url registering etc, which is a massive problem when it gets shortened automatically...

PS, hope you like my 404.

The url shortening is just standard truncation, but you've spotted something interesting with the comma there - i'll post it as a bug over @ Invision.

Thanks :)

I'm liking the new syntax highlighting.

<?php
$foo = "foo" . "bar";
echo $foo;
?>

The jump to IPB 3 was a smart one, well done.

Haven't posted here in ages, and frantically google search for the forum for 5 minutes - because I had the old forum image in mind.

Its' okay.
