It's looking good, very nice. It'd be better if we had an idea of what the software was for, also have a think about using some transparency, some programs like Nero are using transparency on their logos and splashes now and it looks really cool, as though something is floating on your desktop

The software is a IDE for a space flight simulation program called Orbiter. Infact, I'm the main programmer
Hope I helped,

i like the text treatment, but I think your swirly graphic needs to be more "graphic" - it looks like a generic 3d effect at the moment, and if it weren't for the text next to it I doubt it would identify your brand. Take a look at 3ds Max' double snake logo:

Hey,
I agree with Traxor & Sunwukung on the AutoDesk logo and also the transparency.
Has your company/program got a logo for it so that people can reconise you using your logo also? If not then i would think about getting one of them created first!
If it has then you could try using that in your design but implement it slightly to make it unique to that program.
For example if you were to then create a slightly more improved program with better features or a whole now one all together then you can do that same kind of thing but make the changes to the logo to be unique to that program.
