Will you have a forum where people will be able to discuss different sports?

blog....well a sort of blog, people could start a blog about their local teams (not big ones but like school, kids teams, 5 a-side teams) I think it would be a nice addition to the site and something different

Depends how you want to do it, This forum (Invision) has blogs you can install as a separate add-on. You can manage it in the same Admin panel plus your members only have to login once to use all features of the boards and blog.

You could also try Wordpress MU - which allows members to create unlimited blogs.
