Hi, I am wondering what stages and procedures you all go through when development a website from start to finish.
I have only done work for family and friends at the moment but I have had the local hair salon ask me for a website and would like to have a route to follow to ensure the quality of the site.
My current process is a bit like this:
- Get client requirements
- Select CMS
- Wireframes
- Photoshop Designs
- Implementation/Development/code
- Testing/Validation
- Go live
It would be great to know the phases you all go through!
Thanks,
Dave

I started off the same and then I did some projects for clients, just do it the way you've been doing it before and you'll soon see if it works for you or not and what changes you need to make, if any, for other clients, it was trial and error for me, with as few errors as possible
every client is different too with different requirements, but what you've got there looks good to me
A question though, how easy do you reckon it would be to leave the CMS to last step or is it better having that in as one of the starting steps?

Mine would go something like this...
Project scope/requirements/aims
Background work, research, info gathering
Prototype wireframes etc
Install software as required and build wireframe into the "live" site
Configure, setup software as required
Build up templates, write CSS
Add content
Create and add "design" graphics
Test
Signoff and handover

If you need to use a CMS it's one of the first things to consider when you know the scope and needs of the project. Quite often a client will aks for editing abilities from the start, other times they may not want to edit but using a CMS is practical over static pages.
Also the scope and needs of the project will often dictate the type of CMS you need to use different site shave different needs and one CMS will never be ideal for all sites.
