I've seen a few sites with downloadable questionnaires for clients to fill in to get an idea about what they want from their site etc.

Just wondered if anyone here uses them, and how successful they are?

Cheers :)

Cheers! I was mulling over writing one. I want to keep it as concise as possible as I have seen some really long ones, and although they are thorough, thinking as a prospective client it might feel a little overwhelming when all you want is a quote!

I was thinking of having a 1-2 page one for initial quote estimate purposes and smaller websites, and a longer option for those that want to thoroughly go into the details...

i suggest to have short one where the client doest feel like his doing an exam and meet the client and have a discussion to get the idea out of his head properly.
people like to talk to people whome they are working with, thats my opinion..

Yeah I agree. A large amount of the work I do though is via telecommunications so face to face isn't often possible... which is where a longer questionnaire would be useful.

I am in the process of sorting one out, but it is more likely to be questions that i ask them, and i fill it in mysellf.

That way i get both the personal touch to my clients as they are talking to me, but i wont be missing things out. It also means when you have a "what do you want out of your site?" or something similar its not "Clients to find me" Its amazing how often the public can misunderstand something.
