Cant say for web-agencys specifically but I've worked self employed/freelance in a different area and you are supposed to put you schedual D number on your invoice which you get when you register with the tax office.

If your overall earnings for the year are less tan £2500 (I think??) then you wont need to pay tax on it anyway but you do still need to be registered all the same.

At least that is my understanding of it. however I hardly ever put my schedul D number on invoices all they really need is a date, name , address and the amount. always handy to put bank details on too.

Hope that helps :)

A good thing for you to do might be to call into your local job centre and ask them about it, that way you will know that the advice you are getting is the correct advice :)

(not saying Tobo is wrong, as I would of thought the same as that )

You should register with the taxman anyway, so that they cant fine or hit you with a heavy penalty if they find out. An agency will tell them theyve paid you, so then they may chase you, depending on how much work you do.

Exact tax limit for 2009/2010 tax year is £6,475. Which is great, because i earn £6200 a year in my other job, that covers the bills.

Ok.

it may also be worth speaking to the agency. Which one are you with and how much work do they give you? some will actually handle all of your taxes for you, but charge a small fee.
