Hi,

I thought best to make you aware that the forum will be moving to a super fast server over the weekend, so there may be some down-time during the switch over whilst DNS propagates around the inter-web. I'll add a re-direct if the new server can work with a temporary i.p setup as it may only resolve to the domain - but we'll see! :)

During the process the forum on this server will be closed (so we don't lose any posts during the process) hopefully things will go nice and smoothly :)

I don't have a time yet, but will let you know on this thread when I do :)

Cheers :) :flm7:

Cheers Acuity! Me to :)

Hopefully it shouldn't be too bad, just making sure server setup is correct and then moving a database and one big-ass .zip of all the files! :)

Thanks again.

Good luck with the change over...was it this forum that had problems last change over and you kept writing messages on the site, about how annoyed you were with 1and1? or am I thinking of a different forum?

:o There's a different forum??????

Lol, Ben I hope everything goes really smoothly. I have noticed WDF taking longer to load recently and wasn't sure if it was just my sucky net connection or the site. I guess this place has gotten pretty big and needs better accomodation!

Thanks Dizi, yes, when upgrading the actual server operating system it was Plesk that was a HUGE pain in the ass because the latest release is very buggy - so had to downgrade and when doing so was incompatibility issues...urghhh..was a nightmare. Migrating servers should be more straight forward....I hope! :)

Thanks Eris :) - Yes the new server is pretty fast with 4 gigs of Ram so there should be a difference in load times! :) The server has better spec than my home pc!

I must admit that I've never noticed a speed problem or any other problems ever.

Oh well - good luck in the migration.

I second what Eris said, I've had slow troubles with the loadtime.
But, That could just be my crappy WiFi which insists on cutting out :)

Thanks very much, forum speed is generally pretty fast as it's the only website on this dedicated server. :) - The new server should see the forum stable for a few years! :)

You're in for a speedy treat from now on then! :) - have you got the 50mb package?

Cheers Chipshop, and thanks for the add on Twitter :)

Edit:

It's looking like Saturday Morning (possibly evening depending on how tomorrow turns out) as saturday/sunday are the quieter days, so expect limited access to the forum this weekend! :(

YEHAW!

Very quick, even me with my crappy internet.

Just wondering, if it will change to the address instead of the IP, I gather it is just the DNS has not swapped over yet?

Woooo! glad to hear it. :)

Yes, you got it - just waiting for the DNS to kick in anything from 24 - 48 hours. :)

The downside is, now the interwebs feels slow.

I never ever thought there was a problem with speed before, but frankly, now, i see the improvements, and they be good.

Yeah, I noticed the speed difference. Things seem pretty good so far, will WDF keep its PR with the domain DNS changing?

I had noticed a recent drop in speed on the forums, so this is definitely an improvement!

I'm downloading something at the highest speed I can, 250Kbps, and uploading at 10.5Kbps and it still loaded quickly when compared to most other sites, which take a long time when you're downloading/uploading. Nice work Ben.

I seem to be browsing on an IP address, not the domain name. And - when I get an email from the forum, it's the IP address in the email, not the domain name.

My browser kept (and still is) coming up with "Address Not Found" errors (I know it takes time for web address to resolve itself)

Fortunately, I got an email notification for a thread I'm following, otherwise I wouldn't have known forum was back up.

Good work Ben :D

Yip, I had to change everything to the I.P, once DNS has fully settled i'll revert everything back to the domain name :)

I think it must be getting there as Nero has pointed out the website has completely gone, so it must be in the final stages of switching over (I would have thought)

Glad you're all finding it speedy! :)

I've noticed when posting a reply/new message it submits VERY fast! :)

Who knew that a speed increase of 0.01 seconds would make so many people happy :)

DNS is taking an unusually long time but It all depends who your with I guess... At least you got 1.8GB worth of files across smoothly Ben :)
