Hi everyone,

Im just wondering if some people can give me their views or possibly some advice.

I live at home with my parents (was planning on moving out,but due to the recession i didnt get the chance) and i can only afford to have 1 mobile contract.

So how do i give my customers a phone number to call me on? If i give them my home phone, chances are i wont be answering it, and my parents are abit nutty ;) so i dont want to put business off that way. But if i give them my personal mobile, then i may answer it like i would normally and say "hello" and then the customers are put off by it not being a professional, "hello, reaperwebdesign, karl speaking, how may i help...." sort of thing.

Skype! It's about £3/Month for an Unlimited Country Account and if you choose to pay £8 every three months, you can get an online number landline number. Which basically means you get a UK landline phone number that when dialed will ring your skype account.

> It's Cheap
> Looks Professional
and also comes with answerphone and lots of other goodies. The fact you get a landline number with an area code of your choice is better than a easily disposable mobile number, which people maybe suspicious of.

Well if its a mobile, surely the number will either be recognised or not by your address book? If you don't recognise the number, say your bit... and if you have it wrong I'm sure your mates won't mind???

That's just what i'd do (I only have one mobile for both)

That is definately something i will need to look into.

I have skype, but only one of those freebie personal accounts. for £50 a year, thats not bad to have a landline, but i would then also need to be constantly have it turned on with my laptop, which could be interested when my GF is at the computer.

Personally id say set up a SKYPE account as suggested, particularly as it looks better to see a landline of some sort instead of a mobile phone on any contact pages

nah, i can beat all of those! Get a Sipgate account. Free local geographic number, no topup reqs, free voicemail emailed to you!

You can either ring bk on your phone, or buy some top up and download the software! Or even get a handset that plugs into your router, like i have.

Its generally very good. That, or vonage.co.uk

Never heard of Sipgate, might be worth looking into Reaper ;)

Oh just to mention, you wouldn't need your laptop on all of the time, it comes with free voicemail, after however many seconds of ringing that you set, it will divert to answer phone, and you can listen to the messages left when you weren't on skype when you sign in :)

Im actually leaning towards Skype. only because my phone provider and the new contract im getting supports skype and doesnt charge for me to use it (as well as unlimited internet free) So i pay for the business accounts but then use my phone, and just get it to ring a special way when skype is recieving the call, not the normal phone itself.
