Hi there all,

I have lately paid a deposit to a guy from this forum for a website which he agreed to develop for me, I have tried contacting him on numerous occasions but unfortunately he is refusing to reply and his contact number on his site does not work.

He is active on this forum and shows he was on here yesterday.

What do you suggest I do?

Well I'd first try looking for other contact details, perhaps on his domain name whois try www.whois.sc

Also how long has it been with no response ?

Lastly Name and shame him, was it a lot of money ?

His number on website does not work, he will not answer his mobile and i have left a message, he is not responding to email which he did when discussing site and he no longer goes on msn which i have his contact.

I only paid £125 and was to pay £125 on completion.

I ordered website 9th March and he quoted around 10 days

Not alot to some but is alot to me and he agreed to it from my criteria which was sent

The guy in question is an advanced member and has made in excess of 300 posts and still active?

When was the last communication you had with him?

EDIT: By the way, It is alot of money, £125 is an awful lot too loose. I'm sure we'd all agree we'd all prefer to be £125 quid up than £125 quid out of pocket, so I sympathise with you on that one!

16th March was last e-mail I received from him, I ordered the site on the 9th march. It is so frustrating and I would hate anyone else to be going through this, especially off same person.

I reckon that chances are, you asked this chap to build your site, he said "yeah no problem, I can do that!" you paid 50% up front and he then realised he couldn't do what you had asked... so he is hiding

Was it a complicated site?

Sounds about right, but I did provide him with a criteria and he did make agreement.

If I do not hear from this guy by 1300hrs tommorrow, I will name and shame and of course lose my £125 deposit. Some of you may be surprised as to whom it is. His business is pasted in every directory going and he has a facebook group and twitter.

This ****ing sucks and is uber bad for the forum rep. Thanks for coming here and asking for help rather than go to another forum and bad mouth us all.

I hate how people arent honest with clients, but I guess it probably goes all the way back to the person not taking enough details and working out what actually needs to be done.

I'd send him a link to this thread as well, warning him that he'll be named tomorrow. I'd imagine that'll get him in gear and *hopefully* make him pay the money back.

Sorry to here about you're problems. It's certainly not good for you, and it's not good for our industry either.

He's not on here asking how to do the job he told you he could do is he? That would really be taking the biscuit!

There's never a good outcome for situations like this, but good luck in reaching a satisfactory one.

If this guy contacts me and arranges for my site to be delivered or a refund nothing more will be said. The consequences of him not contacting me will be to make people aware of my dealings with him.

Gives all us freelancers a bad name.

I think it's great you have waited over a month for him, been trying to get in contact constantly and have now even given him a chance to explain himself. If after all that he can't then explain himself then really his name will be scarred forever and this will haunt him the rest of web design career.

nicely said Tom.

Was this site time critical? you might be able to sue for loss of earnings or something, it might just scare him. You could also start a small claims against him.

I really think this person needs to be named and shamed, it's been long enough now. Who is it? Some added pressure may help somewhat.

Let's just say Clearcut, Search through the member directory for anyone over 300 posts who logged in today prior to 16:25, then look through all of their profiles and the one who has had all of us looking at their profile is probably the guilty one.

That sounds like a lot of effort . Either way, it does seem strange for an active member of the forum to do such a thing. Usually it's the types that sign up just looking for an easy target.

EDIT: Never mind, think I know who it is. Still find it odd though.

It's a he so that rules out all the ladies except Helen (unless we're PC and count post-op as female!!!)

I'm rubbish at guessing stuff so someone PM the likely candidate for the love of God!

Guys, there is no need to guess. As of 1pm tommorrow I will inform all, as this is the fairest way. Unless I am otherwise contacted from the person in question?

I'm closing this thread NOT because of the topic, but because of the immaturity of members who have replied.

This is a serious situation and turning it into a fun guessing game is disgraceful.

I hope those involved (and you know who you are) are ashamed of themselves.

If the OP wishes to start another thread to name and shame then that's fine as I understand that when the person in question refuses to respond the only thing you can do is air your problems in public and hope it has an effect.

On the other side of the coin, I would suggest that the client should also ensure that they have fulfilled their side of the contract to the full before they accuse the designer in public. I also suggest that taking legal action is probably more appropriate.
