Have I been conned?

I have lately paid a deposit to a guy from this forum for a website which he agreed to develop for me, I have tried contacting him on numerous occasions but unfortunately he is refusing to reply and his contact number on his site does not work.
He is active on this forum and shows he was on here yesterday.
What do you suggest I do?

EDIT: By the way, It is alot of money, £125 is an awful lot too loose. I'm sure we'd all agree we'd all prefer to be £125 quid up than £125 quid out of pocket, so I sympathise with you on that one!

If I do not hear from this guy by 1300hrs tommorrow, I will name and shame and of course lose my £125 deposit. Some of you may be surprised as to whom it is. His business is pasted in every directory going and he has a facebook group and twitter.

I hate how people arent honest with clients, but I guess it probably goes all the way back to the person not taking enough details and working out what actually needs to be done.

He's not on here asking how to do the job he told you he could do is he? That would really be taking the biscuit!
There's never a good outcome for situations like this, but good luck in reaching a satisfactory one.

Who is the mystery web thief?
If this guy contacts me and arranges for my site to be delivered or a refund nothing more will be said. The consequences of him not contacting me will be to make people aware of my dealings with him.

I think it's great you have waited over a month for him, been trying to get in contact constantly and have now even given him a chance to explain himself. If after all that he can't then explain himself then really his name will be scarred forever and this will haunt him the rest of web design career.

Was this site time critical? you might be able to sue for loss of earnings or something, it might just scare him. You could also start a small claims against him.

It's a he so that rules out all the ladies except Helen (unless we're PC and count post-op as female!!!)
I'm rubbish at guessing stuff so someone PM the likely candidate for the love of God!

This is a serious situation and turning it into a fun guessing game is disgraceful.
I hope those involved (and you know who you are) are ashamed of themselves.
If the OP wishes to start another thread to name and shame then that's fine as I understand that when the person in question refuses to respond the only thing you can do is air your problems in public and hope it has an effect.
On the other side of the coin, I would suggest that the client should also ensure that they have fulfilled their side of the contract to the full before they accuse the designer in public. I also suggest that taking legal action is probably more appropriate.
