Would be greatful if as many of you as possible could answer this - should be quite insightful hopefully. You can click more than one answer per question. I appreciate that some questions haven't enough options for different situations etc but I want ot eventually turn it into a somewhat generalised pie chart and statistics which requires a reasonable amount of options...

NB: This is probably flawed in many different ways, but just fill it in! :)

Most of these questions are quite commonplace - especially the first four, any designer who is doing it for a living will answer Sometimes to the first three questions and Always to the fourth. You can never have set payment rules, you have to be flexible for your client. That may mean taking a lump sum payment or accepting installments... you have to move with what the client wants really.

And any designer not using a contract when dealing with a client for cash is a total fool!!

Nice thread.

I sometimes charge per hour depends on the job, and then sometimes I just charge a lump sum split into goals where I take a deposit and then pay the rest as we go along.

Out of interest... those who do charge deposits, what actual percentage do you go for?
I have had it set at 25% but am thinking of raising it to 40%.

my deposits vary from 25-50%, if i am outsourcing work,i make sure i get enough from the client to cover the outsourcing costs.
