First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong place. I couldn't see anywhere more appropriate and not sure if Copywriting covers this. Please move it if it is in the wrong place

I'm in the process of designing a website, it's basically a social network site for promoting bands/music artists.

I'm planning it with a friend and we decided on the name Eden as for some reason - we just felt it fit with the site. However, getting the domain we want is a massive problem so we are in the process of perhaps coming up with a new name.

The only domain available to us is www.eden.gb.com. I'm not a fan of the extra gb in the domain and think it spoils what we wanted.

So we come to coming up with a new name. We want something unique, something that sounds good and I did come up with another. It's a play on the word 'eq' - the new name would be EKYOO. Now, it is pretty unique but is this a good website name?

Or, do you have any other ideas we could use.

Like I said, I'm not a fan of the extra gb in the domain, so if it was you - would you compromise for the Eden name with the longer domain or go for a new name?

Thanks in advance.

This is the right place for this thread!
I can help spark some ideas for different names but it's tricky without knowing a little more detail on what your site is specifically trying to achieve, who specifically are you targeting and what is the 'hook', the unique thing about your site.
If you're interested in posting a short paragraph with this kind of info then I can help give you ideas and I'm sure plenty of others will have great ideas too.
I'm also not a fan of the 'double-dotted' domain names (highly technical term I used there! ) - they just look ugly to me but that's not exactly a reason not to use one just a feeling I have.
Oh, and what does 'eq' mean? :D

Yes, definitely not a fan of the .gb domain name. I think you would be better off coming up with a new name, or finding a way to keep the existing name in your domain with only just .com or similar

@ wizely - EQ is short for equalisation: the balancing of sound frequencies in music/ audio recordings.

EQ is a shorthand term/abreviation for Equalization/Equalizer/Equalize in the audio world. I threw this together, hopefully it is what you're after.

[site name] is aimed at music artists who wish to put themselves in the spotlight. We host the bands selection of tracks, photos and videos. We deal with unisgned artists, indepedenent labels and major label names but pride ourselves on getting unknown artists heard. We offer bands the opportunity to create their own profile page and offer the most powerful and flexible page customisation options so that their profile can truely reflect who they are.

My friend who I'm doing this with is set on using the .gb domain name so I have some convincing to do :D The more I think about it, the more I dislike the idea of it.

Thanks for the replies ^_^

OK... some idea generators - I don't have much time at the moment but it might help...

Loads of ideas are already taken but all these should be available but I haven't checked for competitors (where there's only a .co.uk the .com is taken):

eqjam.com
eqjam.co.uk
eqloud.com
eqloud.co.uk
eqsphere.co.uk
jamsphere.com
jamsphere.co.uk
mysession.co.uk
gigjam.co.uk
gigvibe.co.uk
gigvoice.com
gigvoice.co.uk

I can think of some more if it's useful?

If it's not too much trouble, I will take you up on some more ideas. I like some of the ones you've already posted and will discuss them with my 'partner' ;)

Thanks.

Hah, finding a name. Always major pain in the ass like 90 % of what you can come up with is already taken. Maybe try and find a meaningless catchy non-word.

Yeah exactly.. It's so annoying coming up with a name nowadays...
