It seems a bit faster than version 3, and the top sites features I like!

Yeah it's definitely faster. It's quite an improvement over the previous version. The top sites feature reminds me slightly of Opera's speed dial, but still quite cool nonetheless.

Will the Beta overwrite any existing versions of Safari?

The new Safari looks tight. It feels very Chrome like, which is an interesting move and makes me a little curious about if Google will change anything for their Mac release of Chrome. Overall I think the tabs at the top are a good idea, and the top sites feature looks very Apple-esque – not sure how much I'd use it though.

However until Safari implements a decent plugin architecture I won't be switching back from FF.

Yeah it does overwrite the existing version, which is unfortunate if you're wanting to still stick with V3 for a while.

Hotmail also doesn't seem to work too well whilst using the Beta <_<.

Faster than the version 3, but nothing interesting. I use IE7 and FF, there is nothing extra to choose safari.
