I have designed a business card for myself and would like to get this printed.
Do you know of any good place online where i can send my design and they print and deliver (UK).
Would like special effects also such as gloss or rounded corners etc.
Thanks!

If you are looking to pay a little more for better quality and other affects www.solopress.com looks like the right place. I have not used them before but I asked for a sample pack and they where very quick and friendly. The cards in the sample pack where great quality.

I used CardsMadeEasy.com and while they aren't the cheapest, I'm very happy with the quality of the cards I received. You upload your design to their website and so long as it's decent print quality, they will print and deliver to you without any problems. Very convenient! And I think they do do the fancy finishes you're after so check them out!

I think it's 500 full colour business cards for £30, with any type of finish.

500 Double Sided Business Cards
£50.00
1000 Double Sided Business Cards
£67.50
1500 Double Sided Business Cards
£157.50
2000 Double Sided Business Cards
£202.50
67.50 for 1000 business cards? you can buy 3000, for the cost of buying 2000 ?

Come on, tell us what you really think. Don't hold back now...
I used Vistaprint a couple of times and never had a problem with either quality or international delivery.

non standard card sizes, poor print quality, poor alignment, rubbish card quality. IMO, they are very cheap for a reason and thats because they are rubbish

My advice would be to google business card printing or something and then request samples from all the sites (as they all do free sample packs). Then go for the one you like the feel and quality of best.
I went for the recycled ones as I like the feel but a lot of the companies sent out samples with rounded corners and spot gloss aswell (although they are more expensive).
I'll try and get some photos of my cards up sometime.

My client wanted a black background to his cards, so I designed the card with a black background in Illustrator and then uploaded via the web app, the 'screen proof' looked more like a dark grey, so with a little bit more reading as to why this was happening I realised that it was something to do with the CMYK black not being K=100 but rather a mixture of the 4 colours to make black (sorry if ive lost anywone).. So I redid it with the revised 'black' and then uploaded it again, looked perfect.
When they were delivered, they were a really dark purple :|
And he paid an extra £17ish for 'rush' delivery (within 3 days) and they still took around 2 weeks (they threw in an extra 250 cards I think, but its besides the point).

A good company I've used before is goodprint.co.uk
My church just had some cards printed by vista print and the quality was poor...the edges weren't cut straight

Ya I gotta agree with Zig. I have only used their 'premium' cards and they have been exceptionally good quality for the price. My clients have been very happy, especially considering the prices. The product was the exact same as what I saw when I previewed it and placed the order. If this weren't the case, there is no way I would be using them.
I have used Overnight prints before who offer a few more options, and slightly better quality from my experience. You can get rounded corners, double sided glossy etc. As far as online printers go they are the best I have tried. I stopped using them because they only ship UPS to Canada now, so I get nailed with UPS's sham fees.
Once you sign up for any of these sites you constantly get sent 'deals' as well. You normally pay about 50% or more less than what the prices on the site are. So it's worth signing up before you plan to make an order and wait for email deals. Anytime I need my own cards refreshed, I just wait till they have their "250 premium cards for free" offer on. Which is almost bi-weekly.
Anyway, not arguing with anyone else's experiences. Just passing on my own. Something could happen to change my mind, who knows! I try to support local businesses as much as I can, but the local printers are not interesting in working our deals with designers at all. They even tend to be rude.

I know what you mean. Although in my case trying to get some flyers sorted out, the price isn't really the issue though it's just the fact that I don't want a zillion flyers printed out so they can't be arsed!

Ya it's sad. If they would meet me somewhere in the middle, I would gladly use one of them. But they just don't seem interested. As a small business, I would rather support a small business. I would pay more if the service was worth it, but it's not. The product I get from the online places so far has been great, so I end up going with them.

When my cards finally arrived, I wasn't too happy with the colour reproduction and the cards didn't seem to have been cut very straight either. I emailed them and complained, which resulted in them giving me a merchant credit for a value of around £16.00.
Think I'll be using an alternative print company next time.
