Hi All

Firstly apologies if this is not the correct place to post this, Im sure someone will guide me in the right directions for future posts.

After spending some time dabbling with Photoshop and Illustrator I have come up with a logo design for myself. I am a novice when it comes to these graphic programs as my strengths are more in the backend development.

Can you please give me your opinions and improvement ideas as it may look a bit scary for a professional logo. I want it to stand out but this may be too much?

I wish everyone a healthy and happy 2009 in advance :)

Hi I like the idea behind the logo the grimy font and the rough surround, but unfortunatly I dont feel the execution has carried it of, the drips from the F and the H just dont quite look right.

there is a thread on here somewhere with a link in it to an excellent tutorial for creating logo's I will try and hunt it out for you unless somebody beats me to it.

HI All

Thanks for responses so far.

The effect I really wanted was something raw, like it has just been painted on however now that I look at it I think the red makes it look a but too much like blood :(

Shaba,

Had a think about it and came up with this, you get your gritty grunge font style, and also a more conventional statement about what you do. it might give you a starting point to work from.

T_Break, many thanks for all your input. I like your design, was that done in photoshop? what effects did you use to get the grey font like that?

Hi Shaba, yes it was done in photoshop the font is freely available from this website here its called 28 days later, and the text underneath is good ol Arial so will be a piece of cake for you to reproduce. good luck with your project.

If you dont want to use the exact font the effect can be achieved in photoshop by putting a layer over a chunky font and using the eraser tool to selectivley degrade the font, you can get a very similar result. helps if you have a grungy type brush that you can apply to your eraser tool.

Shaba, you've made a very good first attempt at creating your logo, though it does give off a butchered effect. T_Breaks logo is a good one, with the input and material he's given you, we look forward to seeeing your next draft. Keep up the hard work! :D

T Break many thanks for your help. I will have another bash at it.

REN appreciate the positive comments and I will hopefully update us when I have created the newer logo. I agree with the butchered effect, and it doesnt look the most professional. Although might come in handy in the future for something.

It's good to see that you've come up with a few more variations which is very good. I prefer the last one, although the only downer for the logo is the border, I suggest you review this part and let us know how that goes.

I've provided some links here that I've found to be useful when I undertake the task of designing a logo:

I hope this all helps.

Kind Regards,
Ren

Get off the computer. Seriously.

It looks like you're messing around with programs rather than actually designing. The computer won't do your thinking for you, it's just a tool to realise your ideas - but you've got to have the idea first, and it doesn't look like you do.

Ren's second link gives a pretty good outline of a design process, try following those steps (especially the sketching/conceptualising one). Don't start up any graphics programs until you know what you're going to create in them.
