Hi! Please review: http://www.greten.info/observatorium/

This was one of my earliest designs back in April 2008, but I was never able to use it because I got busy with other projects. I intend to use this as an online lesson repository (I'm planning to go back to teaching this June).

Color scheme is one of the thing that really confuses me. When I researched the internet, some people say that dark over light is better, while others claim that light over dark is superior. The only common thing about these two factions is that they are both too passionate with regards to their opinion. Hence, I am not really sure which one is better.

But then, let's say you're a student or a teacher. Would you read lessons from my website?

If your answer is no. Why not? Anything that I can improve in terms of design and color scheme (let's ignore the content for a moment, as I intend to move this site to another domain and edit the content during transition).

Thanks!

I like the design. Invalid CSS however...

Good Job overall.

Hi Cats Corporation.

First off, I like the design, very science as it were!

As a teacher I am always looking for websites that will add to what I know, enhance my teaching and so on. I am, however weary when web sites offer no form of bibliography or referencing.

Of course, the other thing I am looking for is free (teachers pay, at least in South Africa, does not stretch far).

The last thing I like is easy print, which your site seems to do pretty nicely.

I too have a web site for ICT, a subject I teach. I have found that it is pretty well read, but initially, like all sites people had to find it. I have placed a fair amount of text on my site referring to the curriculum I teach. This has helped a lot in terms of search engines finding my page.
I also subscribe to email forums about my subject and have posted my site on these forums.

Thanks for the comments :)

Meshach>>Yes, the invalid CSS can be problematic. You see, I am using this trick called "Thickbox" where an enlarged version of the image shows-up hovering at the center of the page. In some of my websites that I want to be perfectly W3C compliant, I removed the Thickbox in its entirety and decided to just go with opening the image on a new window or new tab. I am currently experimenting on a Thickbox that is W3C compliant.

caraewilton>> It's nice to hear that there are fellow teachers here in this message board. As for referencing, I think things like "Newton's Laws" and "Thermodynamics" are general knowledge that does not really need referencing unless you presented these concepts in a way similar to a particular author or authors. I will add the references that I used in the future but it will be in a manner similar to textbooks' bibliography and not in a sentence-by-sentence citation like what they do to theses and scientific journals.

Anytime someone makes a website helpful with information and shared knowledge, I have to respect their efforts. :) The design looks nice...I wouldn't change it too much.

Thanks nickyoung and corpz for the feedback.

corpz, yeah, you're correct. Now, I need to check my raw files to see if I can do this.

Guess what guys! I already found a thickbox that is W3C compliant. In fact, it's a pluggin. It's much easier to install. I just implemented it on a client's website and I'll implement it on this project soon enough.

Hey cats!

I like the general look; for me the text size / font isn't quite right. It seems a bit small and cramped for me.

If your css doesn't validate....should maybe take the link off the bottom that says it is.

Anyway good luck and well done so far :)

Thanks Guezala, points taken.

I'll be moving this site to a new domain soon, I'll implement your suggestions after I moved it to my new domain.
