If you're on Windows Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get the task manager up
If you see Firefox listed click on the name a click End process
Now try starting Firefox again

Nah done that lots of times.
kinda weird thought may be my version so i downloaded latest.... went thou system setup and it said i had to close the firefox that was running. (task managers show nothing) i think it bugged

Scanned firefox files individually with both spyware and virus, Ran a disk clean up/check no errors. Restarted PC three times.

gonna see if i can do a system repair on firefox.

i am trying to avoid uninstalling as i really dont want to lose my bookmarks.....

The firefox not shutting down completely bug, really bugs me. I'll close down the browser and then next time I go to re open it, i'll be told that Firefox is still running and needs to be shut down correctly. So i'll open task manager and see that the process is using up 70-80mb of ram (with no windows open or anything). I've had regular occurences of this since the very first release of Firefox 3.

A great FF plug in for your bookmarks is Foxmarks.
It stores all your bookmarks on a server which has the advantage of allowing you to share your bookmarks across several computers keeping them all synchronised and also provides back up if you have to reinstall Firefox :)

Glad it's working for you again, Emmi.

Sometimes on my laptop firefox doesnt close properly and when I try and reopen it, it won't. I just close the process off and then it's 9 times out of 10 OK.

Looks like a cool plugin, I might give it a go; however I use the Google bookmarks feature to store mine.
