Hey all, just wondering if anybody knows of a CMS that could be used for a website for people to post reviews and comments on a wide variety of subjects, they should be able to rate, review and comment on articles etc. Anything you know of that could be helpful would be welcomed.

Thanks.

Hey Liam,

Joomla.com have a really good plugin, which turns the website into a full Reviews & ratings website here is the link for the extension: http://www.reviewsforjoomla.com/

Wordpress also have a good set of rating plugins with Ajax rating, so you can hover over the rating stars and vote without page refresh. Here is a link to the plugin, http://weblogtoolscollection.com/archives/...-rating-plugin/

I hope that helps.

Regards

:)

Im a hardcore Wordpress man to be honest.

It will let you write your reviews, and with a few plugins let you display the no of views of the article and even let people and yourself rate it.

Very helpful thanks.

I use Wordpress. I use install for the review section of the site, and another install for other pages.

I've freelanced with a company for the past 18 months who use Joomla for their review site. It seems to work well (I don't know about the development side; not my area) but they don't seem to think it's the best solution either.

I'm personally intrigued by WordPress but have never tried it for a larger scale project like a review site.

Hi Liam,

I am using JReviews from reviewsforjoomla.com. I tried their trial version to see if it would suit me. I have actually bought the fully licensed version and to be honest with you, £50 is quite a bargain for the flexibility of the system. They've done so much work but left it flexible enough to accommodate a vast amount of scenareos.

Don't forget to look at Drupal. If you also want to look over some other open source software have a look at opensourcecms

Pretty much most CMS's will handle a reviews type site, as leon said there are loads to test at opensourcecms.com!

What I'd do is write out a list of things that you need in your CMS, like

xhtml/css templates
ease of modifying
features like comments, ratings etc
member registration
script support
ease of software updates

...you get the idea. Then go and look at as many CMS's as you can and match them to your list and draw up a short list of candidates. Install different CMS's on your site and play with them to see which one(s) you understand the best and feel you can work with long term.

Finally, remember that what's good for one person may not necessarily be best for you, but that's up to you to decide what you go for in the end!

If I was to do a reviews site I'd go for http://www.expressionengine.com but I'm like that :)
