Is this flash animation done with layer masks?

u can do it with mask ,, use one image in a layer and the other image in upper layer so it upper when the mask work

Thank you, I thought so, would I have to create shape tweens for each shrinking that you see or is there soemthing else I can do?

Hello

The attachment has an example of how to create a similar effect.

It uses the same movie clip in each masked layer. Moving the keyframes about in the blade movieclip, will give different effects - the more they overlap, more slices of the lower picture show through as the new picture is revealed. On the first frame of each masked layer, a small grey rectangle is placed off stage - this is because the masks dont seem to work unless there is content in the first frame. In the keyframe that the movieclip is added to the mask layer, delete the grey rectangle.

The blade movieclip is 55 frames + I've added 20 frames between each unmasking on the main timeline.

The bottom layers does not need a mask layer. The top two layers (copy of layer one image + its mask) bring the movie back to the starting image. There are just 55 frames added after the top mask is added, because the main movie will loop round + show layer one for 20 frames.
