Evie Milo Portal Page

http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/index.php?app=blog&blogid=230&showentry=360

I've just done myself a wee portal page as my eviemilo.co.uk domain has had a holding page sitting gathering cyber dust for far too long. It's a page that links to everything that is Evie Milo online. Well just about everything, there are a few things I missed out as I couldn't get the words to fit.

I've been meaning to do this for ages, but just never got round to doing it as I wasn't sure what I wanted to do - whether it was going to be image led or text based or a mixture of the two. This is what I ended up with:

My two latest client projects have given me the inspiration for it - one with a font and the other with colours.

I found this font today and really liked it - it's called Sketch Block and thought I would use it to spell out the name 'Ali Maclaurin' for the blog I am going to be building her - she really liked it. The more I looked at it, the more I liked it too and that's when I decided to start playing with text and forgetting about images for my portal.

My other current client, Jill Calder, is an explosion of colour and it's been a real joy working with her illustrations and the lovely colour scheme we came up with for her site. So I decided to use lots of colour too and the final result is now live.

New Website for Ali Maclaurin

http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/index.php?app=blog&blogid=230&showentry=359

I've just been hired to produce a small website for Ali Maclaurin who happens to live round the corner from me. Ali is a designer and teacher for all kinds of perfomance and she popped round the other day to discuss her requirements and I'm in the process of coming up with ideas.

Her budget is low, so I've opted to give her a simple Wordpress blog and integrate this with her flickr account so she can easily add images to her blog posts using a funky plugin I've used before. I showed her the backend of one of my blogs to demonstrate that it can be used as a content management system and she would easily be able to update the static pages of the site as well as use the blog part to document her past and current projects and they would all get archived according to date without having to manually do this.

She liked the simplicity of it all so I've just got to come up with a colour scheme and basic layout.

More info and images will be added soon...

New Website for Jill Calder

http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/index.php?app=blog&blogid=230&showentry=353

I've been asked by Fife based illustrator Jill Calder to redesign her current website. It's going to be a really fun project as I love her work and as we've also worked together before on this animation, we understand each others working practices and so far the communication and work flow has been great.

I've come up with initial concepts and ideas and passed these on to her and she's then mocked up some illustrations for me to play with and it's like a game of design tennis. After a few rounds we've decided upon the colour scheme and basic layout, fonts to use etc and I've done a few more visuals for her for guidance and now I'm just waiting for all her funky illustration to come through so I can do the next stage. This takes time, so I've got to wait until next week to see what she's come up with.

So far:

As an additional element to the site I'll be animating all of the illustrated headers as well as other little bits here and there throughout the site and in exchange for this service I'm getting an original illustration from Jill - I gave her a list of my favourite words and she's going to do something funky with them - no idea what, but I'm sure I'll love - nothing beats a 'creative exchange'!

New Website for Alchemia

http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/index.php?app=blog&blogid=230&showentry=352

I'm currently working on a new website for Scottish Gold Silversmiths John Flegg & Irene Orr. They have two outlests, one in Edinburgh and one in St Andrews and need a simple website that will showcase their work as well as help people find out more about them, what they do and where they are.

I cam up with a simple layout for the homepage and they love it and the design went from there. The sitemap has been adapted slightly during the design and build process, but nothing major, no so complications, just a few adjustments here and there.

I'm just adding the CushyCMS functionality to it so they will be able to edit the text themselves and will be training them how to use this on Thursday. So the site should go live on Thursday/Friday this week.
