Intro
I thought I'd use this blog to expand on Copy Corner by sharing some of the ways I approached Escaping the Word Cage which, if you didn't know is my blog for copywriting articles.

My approach, being a copywriter, is to start with words and let them dictate the design.

Seeing things from a different perspective might help with your designing it will at least allow me to go into detail on some examples to help you get more from Copy Corner and copy in your designs.

What's in a name?
A good place as any to start is with the name - Escaping the Word Cage. I chose it for the following reasons:

1. It's a good description of what I want people to get from the articles
2. It's catchy, memorable and sounds natural
3. It's active - Escaping is a strong/evocative verb in action
4. It sets the the right tone - playful to match my style
5. The whole sentence flows - no jagged or awkward syllables
6. It looks and sounds balanced
7. As a domain name (lower case/ one word) each word is still legible - i.e. "escapingthewordcage" (no therapist.com!)
8. It shows some skill with words by the subtle play on "escaping the bird cage"
9. It creates a striking image central to the theme (i.e. the bird cage)

It was well worth putting a lot of thought into this seemingly small part of the design because it has had the biggest influence and led to the entire concept and theme. If anyone's reading this (!) I'll show how I developed the theme through words before turning it into the finished design.
