What is social media?

Social media is information content created by people using highly accessible and scalable publishing technologies. At its most basic sense, social media is a shift in how people discover, read and share news, information and content

Why do we use social media?

Well the simply answer is there loads of reasons. The main two are for staying in touch with friends and business.

Why is it used by businesses?

Well, firstly i would like to say that millions of people us social media websites every day. And when you get numbers of that sort you will always get people who are trying to sell them somthing. Its like when you walk down times sqare in new York or most busy high streets. When there is hundreds or thousands of people walking in the same place there is a opportunity to offer them a service or product. So when you do walk down there, there are people handing out flyers and free samples trying to get you to sign up or buy a product. Well this is the same but in the internet. Businesses can find and target there target audaince very social media websites liek face book my space and twitter.

What’s Facebook?

Facebook is a free-access social networking website that is operated and privately owned by Facebook. Users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, and region to connect and interact with other people. People can also add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. It is worth over 15 billion. What’s Twitter? Wiki

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users’ updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length which are displayed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them (known as followers).I am not 100% sure how much twitter is worth but i found this on a nother website. “The company has received a number of term sheets, according to one source. Valuations range from $60 million on the low end to more than $150 million on the high end. There is, clearly, a bit of salivating going on around Twitter.”

Why do i use twitter?

I find that twitter is a great way of contacting and engaging my target market for my blog and website. I use it to strengthen the STWebDesign brand name and to make people aware of our service and the products. I find that with twitter I can contact people who are very interesting and related to my subject and find out how they work and what they do. I can take information from twitter e.g. Tips that they tweet and then apply them to work life. I can see what other people are posting and if my tweets are just as helpful. This helps me improve the quality of my tweets. I also think that using twitter is a great way to meet people who do the same as you. It helps me get to know people from all over the world who do the same job as me. Over all I think twitter is a great way of connecting to your target market and i would recommend any one trying twitter out. Make sure you use it the right way because if you don’t it can have bad consequence on you and your business. The boag world podcast this week was about social media i found that very helpful.
